Erase Americana Interactive Design Project
Using collected imagery via the Smithsonian and the Library of Congress online archives, I created a mini collection of postcards from American History that represent or celebrate outdated American values like white Protestant heritage and Nationalism. From there, I edited the scans of the postcards to make them uniform and coded them into my project as an array that randomly generates an image each time the site loads.
It is then up to the user to modify or erase each piece of memorabilia as they see fit- taking their time and personal approach. The action of erasure causes the user to question- what does it mean to erase history? What does it mean to condemn it? And are they the same thing?
